DaGaDaGaDaGaDaGa - this phrase she has used for several months. Usually she says it when she wants to give me something, espescially when she is finished eating and wants to give me her cup and plate. I think she's phasing out of this because I don't hear it much anymore, and i never got it on video. It was so cute, and one of my favorite things she did. She's adding new real words to her vocabulary daily. I've heard it described as a "verbal explosion" and that's definitely what she's going through!
She LOVES bananas! "Na's" The other day she had already eaten 2 of them, and wanted a 3rd. I think she might be part monkey. Other favorite foods - blueberries, yogurt (DaDa is what she calls it), cheese, and lima beans. She has also recently discovered Orange Juice, and like her Mama is partial to Fresh Squeezed!
She loves to chase Sadie around the house with her doll stroller. They will literally run circles around the island in our kitchen. Poor Sadie - i don't think she enjoys it much but she plays along anyway. We sometimes have to take baby with us on errands. Baby has her own carrier/car seat in addition to the stroller.
Animal sounds - she's really into them as I mentioned in a previous post about going to the zoo. Her older friends, Clayton & Davis, and Abigail & Lucy love to ask her what sounds animals make. It's like she's a dog doing tricks for them. She loves it and so do they! My favorite is the fish - she makes a little fish face which is so funny.
Speaking of fish she loves to swim. We did a short session of Baby Splash lessons this spring. She loves to jump in and go under, and will hold her breath for a short time too. And she loves to Kick, Kick, Kick which she says along with it as she kicks. We also have a baby pool for the backyard. We put the slide up to it and it's instant fun - she has no fear and loves it! Whenever she sees her pool, or others we pass in the car she either shouts "Pool!" or does the fish face. And now that it's summer, she wants to go to the real pool everyday.
CAR. I got her this little car earlier this spring and it's been a favorite since day one. She loves to play around in "ma car (my car)". I can't even begin to describe how much she loves this car. And she doesn't like to be pushed in it. She likes to be in complete control and pedal it around herself. She also likes car rides a lot in general. If I tell her we are going somewhere, she gets all excited and shouts "Car!". And every time we come home, and turn onto our street she says kind of as a question "Sadie?". It still surprises me that she knows it is our street, and that Sadie will be home waiting. Just today she started saying "Home" as we pull in the driveway!
Edie loves shoes. She's always playing with shoes, trying to put them on herself, trying on my shoes or John's shoes, and sometimes even has an opinion about which shoes to wear. She is definitely still very into bags and purses, stashing things in them, and carrying them around! She loves jewelry too. MJ keeps a stash of jewelry for her at her house. She knows right where it is and loves to wear it around!
She loves to brush her teeth, and brush her hair. She also loves to brush my hair. Her hair is still blonde as ever, and has gotten long enough just recently for me to start putting it in little pigtails! And she still loves wearing bows. One day she woke up and requested all of her bows be worn at once!
Her favorite books are the word/picture books, Goodnight Gorilla, Brown Bear, and Once Upon A Potty. Speaking of potty, she has been sitting on it before bath time for several weeks, and has even used it a few times. We aren't really potty training yet, just introducing the idea. But boy was I excited and so was she when we realized she had used it!
"DOH!" This is "No". She has definitely realized that she has her own free will. I hear No more and more frequently, which as you can imagine can be quite frustrating. It's so cute the way she says it though, but I try not to let her know that. She says it to Sadie a lot, especially if it involves Sadie trying to share a snack.
She still sleeps with her blanket. I haven't noticed her sucking her thumb much anymore other than when she's in bed, except for when she's really tired. She also still takes an afternoon nap like a champ - I'm hoping to keep this going for as long as we can!
She tries to count. It usually sounds like some version of "two, four, fwee, two". She will sing her abc's too, although you can really only make out a couple letters.
She's super helpful. She loves to help me empty the dishwasher and vacuum. She has her own little vacuum - i just wish it actually worked!
I'm sure I've left some things out. But that's Edie at 22 months in a nutshell! It seems that all of a sudden this spring/early summer she has really transitioned from baby Edie into a sweet little girl.
